St. Thomas Forane Church Mylacombu is one of the ancient churches in Kerala, and it is known as' The Mother Church of the East'. Mylacombu Church is located in the Kumaramangalam Grama Panchayath of the Idukki district in Kerala. According to local tradition, the Christian community in Mylacombu dates back to the 1st century AD and is believed to have been founded by St. Thomas the Apostle. Some other traditions include Mylacombu in the category of second-generation churches in Kerala founded between the 4th century AD and the 6th century AD. So at least by AD 600, there was a strong Christian community at Mylacombu. From ancient times on, Mylacombu was a renowned pilgrim centre. Almost all the churches in present-day Thodupuzha, Muvattupuzha, and Kunnathunadu taluks were formed from Mylacombu Church. These churches include Kadamattam, Nakapuzha, Arakuzha, Nediasala, Kothamangalam, etc. The centuries-old open-air granite cross, ancient granite baptismal font, and church bell with ancient inscriptions are some of the main attractions of this church. The relics of the Holy Cross and St. Thomas are kept in this church for public veneration.
